Alpha-Liv is a specially formulated syrup/tonic from Schwabe India for liver, bile and related digestive disorders. It is a liver tonic which helps in recovering and maintaining liver functions with effective response in liver disorders. It has many useful and natural constituents which are helpful in improving health in general, cleansing the intestinal tract, and detoxifying the body thereby regulating the functions of the liver and digestion. Schwabe India’s Alpha-Liv syrup contains mother tinctures and lower potencies of Carduus Marianus, Chelidonium Majus, Andrographis Paniculata, Hydrastis Canadensis, Podophyllum Peltatum, Ipecacuanha and Acidum Citricum.

Indications: It is useful in cases of sluggish liver functions, and fatty liver, and as a supportive treatment for jaundice, infantile jaundice, liver damage from alcohol abuse, biliary colic, and toxic liver damage. It also helps in many disorders of digestion such as indigestion, constipation, flatulence, nausea, vomiting and also in general detoxification of the system. It also controls nausea and vomiting related to liver and biliary disorders. It regulates digestion and helps in regulating bowel movements hence preventing constipation.

The actions of main ingredients of the tonic are:

Carduus marianus: It acts on liver, portal veins and hepatic vascular system. It treats conditions like alcohol abuse, liver enlargement with soreness and fullness, hyperaemia of the liver, jaundice, lack of appetite vomiting, nausea, irritability, constipation etc.

Chelidonium majus: It helps in treating jaundice, enlarged liver, sluggish bowels due to liver diseases etc.

Andrographis paniculata: This helps to treat liver diseases in children, general weakness, prolonged fever, jaundice and enlarged liver. It also acts as a tonic and helps in the treatment of dyspepsia and dysentery.

Hydrastis Canadensis: It treats jaundice with dull pain in the hepatic region, constipation, and hardness of the liver.

Podophyllum peltatum: It is helpful in case of a distended abdomen with weakness, the sensation of emptiness, jaundice and enteritis with loose stools.

Ipecacuanha: For nausea, vomiting, pain around the navel, sore liver and frequent urging to pass stools.

Acidum citricum: For hemorrhage and ascities. It regulates acid-base balance and establishes normal bile flow.

Dosage: Unless otherwise prescribed by the physician, 1-2 teaspoons thrice daily. As the symptoms improve, it can be reduced to 1-2 teaspoons twice daily. It is a well-tolerated drug and can be used for prolonged periods. Children should be given half the adult dose. It contains syrup and care should be taken regarding dose and duration in diabetes.

Note: For treatment during pregnancy and lactation, and for patients with serious liver or alcohol problems, in particular, please note that this product contains a small quantity of alcohol. For the treatment of patients with diabetes, please note that this product contains sugar.
